05 Nov How Much CBD Should I Use: a Guide to CBD Serving Sizes
Do you find yourself asking: How much CBD should I use? Here’s a complete overview of CBD serving sizes, types of CBD products, CBD benefits, and more.
A common question many HempMeds® customers first ask is what is a good CBD serving size? This question is less clear than you may expect. So just what is a serving of CBD?
The truth is that there is no such thing as a “perfect CBD serving” in the traditional sense, so CBD serving size varies, depending on the person, the situation, and the CBD product being used.
We provide suggested serving sizes on the packaging of all our products, but ultimately, the amount of CBD you take each day is up to you and your own individual needs.
Although they are currently working on CBD regulations, the FDA has not yet established formal nutritional guidelines for CBD products, so there is no official or standard CBD serving size.
Further complicating matters is the variety of CBD infused products available, many with wildly different amounts of CBD per serving. While shopping for CBD products, you might have thought, “How many CBD edibles do I eat at one time?”, “How much of my CBD tincture do I need each day?”, or “Can I take too much CBD?”
The fact is that you likely have your own ideal level of CBD to use each day to feel your best. When determining the number of milligrams of CBD that are ideal for you each day, it helps to think about your CBD goals, the types of products you prefer, and your budget for CBD products.
The HempMeds® online store features products ranging in CBD from just over 1 mg up to 225 mg per suggested serving. With such a variety of CBD concentrations and a choice in CBD products ranging from CBD capsules to CBD oils, the answer to the question, “how much CBD should I use?” is tied to the question of which product is right for you?
In this article, you’ll learn how to choose the CBD serving size that best meets your individual needs, the sensations to expect, and whether or not it is possible to take too much CBD in a serving.
FDA Regulations and Suggested Servings
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is ultimately responsible for creating a Recommended Daily Intake (RDI), defined as the daily levels of a nutrient sufficient enough to meet the requirements of 97-98 percent of healthy individuals in the U.S. This is a nutrient’s recommended daily serving size.
However, the FDA has not yet created an RDI for suggested daily CBD servings. In order to comply with FDA regulations, HempMeds® does not list an RDI of our own, nor do we provide a Daily Value (%DV) for any of our products.
Our products do come with a “suggested serving size”, though. This is here as a guideline to help you decide the right amount of CBD oil to use, perhaps using a variety of our products, to help you hit your daily CBD goal. Ultimately, the amount of CBD you use in each serving is entirely up to you.
We recommend our customers do their own research from a source they can trust or consult their doctor or medical specialist to determine their own ideal daily CBD levels.
Finding Your Ideal CBD Serving
With such a variety of CBD products and potencies, the question remains, “How much CBD should I use?”
If there’s ever any doubt about how much CBD you should take, start small. When starting any new health routine, it is suggested you start low and go slow.
Once you determine the CBD levels you’d like to achieve each day, try starting below that number and work your way up, increasing your serving size until you achieve the effects you are looking for.
When you hit your predetermined daily serving size, you can decide if you’d like to continue increasing or stay where you are. This will help you dial in the daily CBD serving that works best for you.
Many new CBD consumers start with about 25 mg a day, the amount in our RSHO® Blue Label CBD Capsules. Others, looking for more dramatic effects, will use CBD servings of 100 mg or more each day. Potencies these high are available in our RSHO® CBD oil concentrates.
There is no one ideal CBD serving size for everyone, and with time, you will learn the optimal CBD serving and CBD products for you.
How Long Until CBD Takes Effect?
It can take a couple of minutes to a couple of hours after use for the effects of CBD to fully appear, depending on serving size and method of application, among other factors that affect the rate of absorption by the body. This variation adds to “How much CBD should I use” being a difficult question without a blanket answer.
CBD, like all cannabinoids, can also build up in the body and cause an increase in cannabinoid receptors, making the endocannabinoid system more active and more sensitive to stimulation by cannabinoids. This is one more reason to make sure you are supporting your system with CBD daily.
Is CBD Intoxicating?
You may have heard of CBD oil products that are federally legal and asked yourself, “Is CBD intoxicating?” The easy answer is no. CBD alone cannot cause euphoric effects, regardless of the size of your CBD servings.
Both CBD and THC are cannabinoids, the active compounds that provide the effects of ingesting cannabis. One of the key differences between CBD and THC is that CBD (cannabidiol) is non-intoxicating. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), on the other hand, is the chemical compound in cannabis that is responsible for producing euphoric, intoxicating effects.
While THC is most plentiful in marijuana, CBD is present in higher quantities in hemp. Hemp also contains only trace levels of THC, making hemp oil a safe source of cannabinoids for all the members of your family, regardless of their age. Some people even give servings of hemp oil with CBD to their pets.
HempMeds® full-spectrum CBD hemp oil products contain less than 0.3% THC, far below the threshold for intoxication. However, for our consumers who prefer to avoid exposure to THC in their daily serving of CBD, we provide products made from 99% pure CBD isolate like our popular RSHO-X™.
Some users report feeling increased relaxation when taking CBD. While this may be misperceived as being intoxicated, this relaxation is simply an effect of the CBD and shouldn’t be confused with the impairing, intoxicating effects of THC. In fact, this relaxing effect is a reason many consumers choose to use CBD oil products.
Can You Use Too Much CBD Oil?
Consumers are sometimes concerned with the possibility of CBD poisoning when deciding to use CBD for themselves or their families for the first time, but CBD is considered non-toxic and well-tolerated for humans, even at high amounts.
CBD or cannabidiol, is one of over 100 known cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. When consumed, cannabinoids like CBD interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which is responsible for helping the body maintain homeostasis or balance.
Supporting the endocannabinoid system with cannabinoids like CBD from daily hemp oil products enhances the endocannabinoid system’s ability to promote balance. That means that everyone can benefit from the advantages of CBD oil products, regardless of age or health level. Some consumers even give CBD oil products to their dogs.
Using CBD Daily
HempMeds® became the first company to create CBD oil products in 2012. These superior products are created by extracting the thick oil from the hemp plant. Rich in vitamins, minerals, omega fatty acids, and proteins with a high level of CBD, this full-spectrum hemp oil can be consumed as is or processed into a number of CBD oil products, such as CBD tinctures, CBD topicals, CBD edibles, CBD vapes, and CBD capsules.
When the endocannabinoid system is supported by the CBD in these products, it is positively affected and better able to maintain balance, supporting the body’s performance each day. While stimulating the endocannabinoid system every day is not essential, doing so may enhance the natural benefits of CBD and its support of the endocannabinoid system.
The hemp-derived CBD oil products in the RSHO® brand are available in low, medium, and high concentrations. With our lowest concentration of CBD per serving, between 1 and 3 mg, our hemp oil tinctures are an ultra-portable way to add small amounts of CBD to your system throughout the day. Our medium range products, like RSHO® CBD Liquid and RSHO® CBD oil capsules, are excellent once or twice daily additions to your diet, offering 31 and 25 mg of CBD, respectively. Finally, our RSHO® oral applicators provide our highest levels of CBD, between 50 and 225 mg of CBD per serving, depending on the label color you choose.
Why CBD Products from HempMeds?
HempMeds® CBD oil products are made using hemp, rather than marijuana, so they are non-intoxicating and safe to use by your entire family, even in larger servings.
Our CBD hemp oil is available as daily products like pure hemp oil oral applicators, tinctures, liquids, and capsules, as well as in skincare products and hair care products.
Hemp oil contains high levels of CBD and only trace levels of THC – far too little to be intoxicating at suggested serving sizes, even in Medical Marijuana, Inc.’s most concentrated products.
As such, because CBD produces no intoxicating effects, hemp CBD oil can be used by people of all ages. HempMeds® further ensures the safety of our CBD oil products by sourcing them from non-GMO hemp grown without pesticides and chemical fertilizers, using non-toxic supercritical CO2 for extraction, and rigorously testing for safety and quality through our Triple Lab Testing® process.
