03 Dec Orange and Banana Hemp Smoothie
With all the natural benefits of hemp seeds, it’s likely you’re looking to find easy and tasty ways to incorporate them into your diet. One of the more effortless ways is to toss them into your breakfast smoothies. The hemp seeds provide essential fatty acids, fiber, magnesium and protein. The essential fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6 help to improve heart health and decrease the risk of heart disease. Fiber contributes to your digestive health, helps to lower your cholesterol, and will keep you feeling full for a few hours. The protein hemp seeds provide is extra beneficial to vegetarians and vegans who have to get their protein sources from non-animal products. They also help to thicken up your smoothie so it doesn’t have the consistency of juice.
While there’s nothing wrong with making a smoothie with any mixture of the fruits you have in your kitchen, there are often certain fruit combinations that work best together. A common favorite is the orange and banana smoothie, which will produce a flavor that will likely remind you of that popular orange smoothie blend that you find at most malls.
Orange and Banana Hemp Smoothie
1 orange, peeled and seeded
1 banana, frozen
2 tablespoons hemp seeds
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon almond extract
3-4 iced cubes
To make enough smoothie mixture for two, double all the ingredients. Throw everything into a blender and run the blender at high until the fruit and ice are broken up and the mixture is smooth. A frozen banana works best for the consistency of the smoothie, but a fresh banana works fine if you just toss in an extra iced cube. If you don’t have an orange, you can use orange juice instead and simply add a second banana for consistency purposes. For an extra-nutritious smoothie, blend in a small handful of spinach into your smoothie.
