19 Apr National Stress Awareness Month is a Great Time to Try CBD
Sometimes the stress of a challenging job, relationship issues or just surviving the expected events in life can feel like a persistent test of your strength. Luckily, April is Stress Awareness Month and we’d like to help you manage yours! Invest in some quick #selfcare and give yourself a dose of cannabidiol (CBD) to bring yourself back to a calm, cool and collected state. But how does CBD help with stress?
Stress is your body’s response to any kind of demand or threat. When it senses danger, your body kicks into high gear, producing an automatic process known as the “fight-or-flight” reaction. Your nervous system releases a flood of stress hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol, which awakens the body for emergency action. Your heart pounds faster, blood pressure rises, breath fastens, and your senses become keener. Often these symptoms of stress prevent us from performing our best and that’s where CBD comes in!
We all have CB1 and CB2 receptors that are part of the endocannabinoid system in our bodies. This system regulates functions in relation to appetite, mood, and memory. Most of the receptors in this system are located in the brain and nervous system. When you feed the endocannabinoid system by taking CBD, these CBD1 and CB2 receptors can bind with other receptors in our body such as one called 5-HT1A which stimulates serotonin production and can help reduce our stress and improve our mood.
There are several clinical studies that provide strong evidence that the endocannabinoid system, comprised of these cannabinoid receptors, is a crucial molecular system that the body uses to help maintain homeostasis. Even the National Institute on Drug Abuse is optimistic about these findings saying, “CBD has shown therapeutic efficacy in a range of animal models of anxiety and stress, reducing both behavioral and physiological (e.g., heart rate) measures of stress and anxiety.”
