How does CBD make you feel?

As a responsible consumer, you’re rightfully curious as to how using daily CBD oil products will make you feel. We get it!

While more and more people are discovering the benefits of CBD oil, we understand that you want to know exactly the types of feelings or sensations you may experience before you incorporate CBD oil into your daily wellness routine.

While it’s important to first note that how you feel taking CBD oil may be different than someone else, let’s discuss the various sensations you may notice when taking CBD products.

What’s in CBD Oil?

Derived from the stalks and seeds of hemp, CBD oil is a natural botanical concentrate that contains a high concentration of CBD and other nutritious material, such as omega-3 fatty acids, terpenes, vitamins, chlorophyll, amino acids, and trace levels of other cannabinoids.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of over 100 cannabinoids identified so far in the cannabis plant. Like all cannabinoids, CBD interacts with receptors throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems and the immune system to alter the release of neurotransmitters.

There are many different reasons why people incorporate daily CBD oil into their lives. CBD oil encourages balance and wellness and provides a slew of minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants that support health.

How CBD Works: Your Endocannabinoid System

Cannabinoids like CBD encourage wellness and health by interacting with the body’s large self-regulatory network – the endocannabinoid system. This system, found in all mammals, is responsible for regulating a large number of the body’s functions.

A properly functioning endocannabinoid system is crucial for our health and well-being. When something in our external environment causes a cell related to any of our functions to become out of balance, the endocannabinoid system makes adjustments to bring things back into balance, or homeostasis.

By interacting with the endocannabinoid system’s receptors, called cannabinoid receptors, it stimulates the system, supporting its efforts to keep your many functions in balance and functioning at a top-level.

With regular CBD oil use, you may experience effects and sensations related to a more active endocannabinoid system as your body and its functions operate more efficiently. You may notice CBD’s balancing effects positively impact a long list of functions regulated by the endocannabinoid system.

How Does CBD Oil Make You Feel?

It’s important to emphasize that CBD oil will not cause you to experience a euphoric effect, or “high.” Because CBD oil is derived from hemp, which naturally contains only trace levels (0.3%) of the psychoactive compound tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), it is a completely non-psychoactive product.

This means that after taking CBD oil, you will NOT notice any adverse intoxicating effects.

As far as how taking CBD oil will make you feel, everyone reacts to CBD differently, so there’s no one-size-fits-all answer to “how does CBD make you feel?” We’ve heard some of our CBD oil users say that they feel a sensation of “increased relaxation” or “soothing calmness” after taking CBD, while others have reported experiencing slight “awakening” or “energizing” effects. Some of our customers have said they don’t particularly feel any type of sensation after taking their CBD oil products, but notice that with regular use they experience an “overall sense of better energy every day” and “improved sleep patterns at night.”

Why these sensations differ between individuals likely has to do with two things: the type of CBD product consumed and the individuals themselves. Before diving into the different types of CBD products and the different sensations they may cause, we’ll say a bit about CBD in relation to the differences between our own bodies.

CBD affects the body by interacting with cannabinoid receptors on cells and strengthening the endocannabinoid system. This can encourage a heightened state of balance within the body. To do that, however, CBD must in some way address the body’s imbalances, which are different for different people. Our customers who stated that they sensed “increased relaxation” or “soothing calmness” after taking CBD may have had too much tension or uneasiness built up before taking CBD. Those who felt slight “awakening” or “energizing” effects may have been experiencing low energy before taking CBD.

These sensations that users experience with CBD often help them in deciding on the best time of day to take their servings. If you find that taking CBD oil makes you feel energized, for example, then a morning CBD routine may work best. Some of our consumers like to incorporate CBD products in the early afternoon when energy levels start to lag. If you notice that CBD oil makes you feel relaxed, then taking your serving of CBD in the evening could be most ideal.

Different Types of CBD Products and How They Make You Feel

While the major differences between CBD-induced sensations have to do with our own bodies, certain differences also arise due to the type of CBD product ingested. Below, we’ve listed several types of CBD products and how they may affect the body upon ingestion.

FULL-SPECTRUM VS. BROAD-SPECTRUM AND CBD ISOLATE

Full Spectrum CBD Oils and CBD Products. Broadly speaking, all CBD products fall between two ends of a spectrum: full spectrum and refined (broad spectrum or CBD isolate). Full-spectrum CBD oils and CBD products retain all the native organic compounds from the hemp plant. These beneficial compounds include chlorophyll, omega-3 fatty acids, terpenes, flavonoids, vitamins, amino acids, and trace levels of other cannabinoids. The presence of the full spectrum of compounds native to hemp can affect the body in different ways. There is evidence that when consumed together, these hemp compounds work synergistically to enhance their natural effects.

Broad Spectrum CBD Oils and CBD Isolate Products. In contrast to full-spectrum CBD products, broad-spectrum CBD oil and CBD isolate products have some or all of the compounds from the hemp plant removed. Broad-spectrum CBD oil has had trace levels of THC removed, while CBD isolate has all of the compounds removed, retaining only CBD. Differences in consumer sensation between full-spectrum and broad-spectrum or CBD isolate products typically boil down to the presence (or, in this case, absence) of these ingredients. Though neither full-spectrum nor refined CBD products induce psychoactive effects in consumers, full-spectrum products tend to offer greater wellness benefits. With that said, some consumers may prefer broad-spectrum of CBD isolate products to avoid even trace amounts of THC.

METHOD OF CONSUMPTION

CBD Oils, CBD Liquids, and CBD Vape Oils. Each of these CBD products is noteworthy for how quickly it is absorbed. When ingested sublingually, CBD oils and can be absorbed into the bloodstream within a minute or two. When inhaled through a vaporizer, CBD vape oils are absorbed into the bloodstream in seconds. Those who feel immediate effects from CBD may choose these methods as a way to feel those effects nearly instantly.

CBD Topicals. CBD topicals include both CBD skin care and CBD hair care products. As these products are applied topically, they are not absorbed by the bloodstream and their effects are rather localized. CBD skin care products are often used to target troubled areas, soothing both the skin and the muscles beneath it. CBD hair care products are used to nourish the scalp and hair, often leading to more comfort and more lustrous-feeling hair.

Consider a CBD Journal

Ultimately, the answer to “how does CBD make you feel?” is personal to you. Everybody is different and how your individual endocannabinoid system responds to CBD products may be different than someone else’s. This is why you may want to consider keeping a journal of your CBD oil schedule and intake.

cbd journal

In your daily CBD journal, record:

  • The time of day you take your CBD serving
  • The type of CBD product you consume
  • The amount of CBD product and related CBD intake (in milligrams)
  • Any effects or sensations you experience
  • Any changes in your sleep patterns or energy levels

This will help you better dial in on your personal optimal CBD routine. You will be better able to adjust your CBD intake and CBD schedule to accommodate your endocannabinoid system and meet your personal wellness needs.
