09 Nov How Baby Boomers Can Integrate CBD into Their Lives
Boomers now represent a quarter of the U.S. population. There were nearly 80 million Baby Boomers born between 1946 and 1964 in the U.S., and 10,000 people turn 65 years old every day. With so many people reaching retirement age or older in this country, it is increasingly important to offer our Baby Boomers with a healthful supplement to encourage robust aging. Here we discuss the ways CBD hemp oil can be used positively in the lives of seniors to create homeostasis.
What We Know About CBD
Our own government acknowledges the benefits of cannabidiol (CBD) and other cannabinoids in their patent on cannabinoids. Identified as patent 6,630,507, Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants, this government owned patent, awarded to Nobel Laureate Julius Axelrod and his team in 2003, describes the possible effects of cannabinoids like CBD.
The patent’s text reads, “Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism.” It continues, “The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants… Nonpsychoactive cannabinoids, such as cannabidiol, are particularly advantageous to use because they avoid toxicity.”
According then to the government’s patent, cannabinoids like CBD act as antioxidants. In much the same way, patent ‘507 also recognizes the ability of cannabinoids as potential neuroprotectants. Overall, cannabinoids like CBD promote balance and homeostasis through their interaction with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which is responsible for functions like sleep, appetite, and immune response.
