HempMeds® CEO Speaks at Autism Tree Event

HempMeds® very own CEO Dr. Stuart Titus spoke on the CBD oil panel at the Autism Tree Project Foundation’s 3rd Annual Neuroscience Conference, held at the Sanford Consortium, in La Jolla, on Thursday October 26, 2017.

Dr. Titus spoke on the panel with Dr. Alysson Muotri and Audrey Kerger about the results of CBD oil use in autism patients. These results have the capacity to expand current research on autism and what future treatment programs may look like with emerging research into cannabinoids.

“We are extremely proud and thankful to be participating in such an important field of study,” said Dr. Titus. “We are confident that with our extensive background and knowledge in the field of cannabis and cannabidiol research that the audience will be informed with the most up-to-date and thorough information possible, in addition to the clinical data on both the botanical as well as pharmaceutical side.”

Other Doctors in the field, such as Dr. Daniele Piomelli and Dr. Olivier Manzoni, have discovered that certain chemicals found in cannabis may help behavioral issues in children with autism or Fragile X syndrome.

Other medical doctors, neuroscientists, and field experts also presented on their respective subjects. One of those guest speakers was Dr. Alysson Muotri, who has been a Professor at the School of Medicine, University of California in San Diego since 2008. Dr. Muotri earned a BSc in Biological Sciences from the State University of Campinas in 1995 and a Ph.D. in Genetics in 2001 from University of Sao Paulo, in Brazil. His research focuses on modeling neurological diseases, such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, using human induced pluripotent stem cells. His lab has developed several techniques to culture human neurons and glia for basic research and drug-screening platforms.

The Keynote speaker was Dr. David Amaral, who is a Beneto Foundation Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience Research Director. He is also the founding Research Director of the MIND Institute at UC Davis, which is dedicated to studying autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders. His research has been dedicated to understanding the biological bases of autism spectrum disorder and magnetic resonance imaging studies of children with autism spectrum disorder. Last year Dr. Amaral was appointed to the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Also in attendance was Dr. Ursula Bellugi, Ph.D and Director of the Laboratory for Cognitive Neuroscience at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California. Her research focuses on the biological bases of language, having extensively studied the neurological bases of American Sign Language. She has also investigated the language abilities of individuals with Williams Syndrome, a puzzling genetically based disorder that leaves language, facial recognition and social skills remarkably well-preserved in contrast to severe inadequacy in other cognitive aptitudes.

Those interested in speaking with Dr. Stuart Titus about his research on the CBD oil use are encouraged to stop by future events where he is presenting.
