Hemp Popsicles

Hemp Popsicles (shutterstock_232073470)You can have a lot of fun with a set of popsicle molds. Popsicles are pretty easy to make. All you do is blend a mixture of ingredients, pour them in the molds, pop them in the freezer and then simply kick back and wait, albeit impatiently, for them to harden into tasty delights. The popsicles you buy can be extremely high in sugar, but making your own popsicles also means that you’re able to control the ingredients and amount of sugar or sweetener that you include. Plus, there’s nothing stopping you from adding even healthy ingredients into your frozen treat. If you were to add hemp milk and hemp seeds to your popsicle mixture, for example, your dessert will satisfy your sweet tooth while also being a good source of protein, fiber and essential fatty acids. Plus, the milk will make your popsicles creamier.

This particular recipe features raspberries, but you’re welcome to use other types of fruits. Strawberries, chopped up into small bites, and blueberries work really well in popsicles. The recipe also calls for Greek yogurt and chocolate chips, but if you follow a vegan or non-dairy diet, you can use soy-based yogurt instead and do without the chocolate chips.

Ingredients:

2 cups hemp milk
2 cups Greek yogurt
4 ounces fresh raspberries
2 tablespoon maple syrup
2 tablespoon hemp seeds
½ cup chocolate chips

Combine all of the ingredients into a bowl and mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon. Pour the mixture into the popsicle molds, filling each mold all the way to the top. If your molds don’t come with plastic sticks or handles, place a wooden popsicle stick into each mold. Because of the thickness of the mixture, the stick should stay upright. Place the popsicle mold into the freezer and let the popsicles harden for at least four hours before serving.
