09 Dec Chocolate Hemp Smoothie
It’s not likely that you’re interested in a chocolate smoothie for its nutritional benefits. But, by tossing in hemp seeds into the mixture, your dessert smoothie will be high in fiber, protein and omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids, which means you’ll be doing a favor for your heart and digestive system. The seeds also contain magnesium, iron, zinc and vitamin B6. Plus, by adding in a banana, your smoothie will offer potassium, which will help you lower your risk of high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease. Because of all its natural benefits, there doesn’t seem to be any reason why you can’t have your chocolate smoothie for breakfast. It’ll take you just a few minutes to whip up this tasty and naturally-healthy treat, and it will make enough for you and your partner or a friend.
3 iced cubes
1 banana, ripe, peeled and frozen
2 cups almond milk
1 ½ tablespoons raw cacao powder
1 tablespoon hemp seeds
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Toss all the ingredients into a powerful blender and blend the mixture until it’s of a smooth consistency. Pour the smoothie into a glass or to-go cup if you’re on your way out the door.
By using almond milk, your smoothie will be dairy-free. However, you’re welcome to use dairy milk or any other types of milk that you prefer. If you find that you’d like your smoothie to be thicker, use ¼ cup less milk than what’s called for in the recipe. For a thinner smoothie, add a ¼ cup more milk to your mixture. For an even sweeter smoothie, consider tossing in two pitted dates. If you’d like to add some greens into the mix, you can easily toss in a ½ cup of spinach or kale and the chocolate flavor will overpower any taste of the lettuce.
