Add Hemp to Your Morning Waffles

Adding Hemp to Your Morning Waffles - shutterstock_223479703A lazy weekend morning is made even better with waffles for breakfast. Waffles are always a tasty way to start a day, but by adding hemp hearts to their batter, you can boost up your breakfast’s natural value. Hemp hearts are the shelled seeds that come from the Cannabis sativa L. plant. The hemp plant and its seeds have no to little traces of tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, but its seeds offer a number of natural benefits.

If you preheat the waffle iron while you’re mixing the batter, you’ll be relaxing back with your breakfast in about 20 minutes. Keep in mind that when you add hemp hearts to your waffle batter, it’ll make the waffles a little thicker than what you might be used to. You can add a little more milk or oil to the batter if you find they’re too thick.

Ingredients:
1 ½ cup whole wheat flour
½ cup oats
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp sea salt
2 eggs
1 cup milk
2 tbsp vanilla extract
6 tbsp melted butter
2 tbsp flaxseed oil
1 cup plain or Greek yogurt
½ cup hemp hearts

You can use whatever type of milk you prefer and flaxseed oil can be exchanged for hemp oil if you want. Hemp oil is made by cold-pressing hemp hearts.

First, mix together all of the dry ingredients except for the hemp hearts. In a separate bowl, mix all the wet ingredients. Combine the dry and wet ingredients together and let the batter sit for about five minutes. Pour the batter into the waffle iron and bake for as long as necessary. The batter should give you enough for 10 waffles. Top your waffles with fresh berries or syrup and your tasty and naturally beneficial breakfast is all set.
